RIDDLE FAMILY CEMETERY

The DIRECTIONS to this cemetery are rather involved. It is out in the middle of a hunting camp. It is important NOT to take a trip to this cemetery during a popular hunting season (click on Seasons & Regulations for more information – the cemetery is in Area 1). Do not go here during deer hunting season!

No matter when you go, you need to advise the hunters at the camp that you are going to the cemetery! The Lapeze family has legal access to our family cemetery whenever we choose to head up there, and we own the four acres of land surrounding the cemetery. With that said, it would be wise to inform the hunters that you will be tromping around in the woods where they are shooting.

FYI: The Hunting Camp is on the site of Nana's old house.

    died 7-Feb. 1907

FYI: Napoleon Bonaparte II and Margarett were the ones who came over in the wagon train from South Carolina with their mother who was told by her husband, Mahaliel Riddle, that he'd “send for her” when he got settled in Louisiana (of course he never did). So she sold the grist mill that they owned in South Carolina and then she bought a wagon and horses and and space on a wagon train and took herself and her 10 children (including NB II and Margarett) and all of their belongings and headed to Louisiana (just before the outbreak of the Civil War, I might add) in order to find her husband! Author's note: I wonder where Mahaliel and his wife are buried? They aren't buried at the Riddle Cemetery or at Grace Episcopal near NB I (Mahaliel's brother).

  4. Nana's sister, Mary Ruth, and her husband, J.F. Williams, and their child, Mary Ruth Williams, who died in infancy from a hole in her heart.

  5. There are some other Riddles buried here, but I don't know who they are. Also, there are some other people buried here, who have NO relation to the Riddles or Lapezes. They are buried outside the Riddle cemetery fence in their own area.
